Rango

This film seriously entertained the hell out of me. For a supposedly "kid movie" they have the dingiest characters ever. I love it!

Although please don't blame me if I kept on comparing it to Star Wars. Rango has counterparts for every imaginable Star Wars characters, and oh that fight scene? Reminded me a lot of the space pod race from The Phantom of the Menace haha.

5 Centimeters Per Second

I cried because once upon a time I believe I was a Kanae Sumida too. I love how this film ended. Nante sutekina eiga!

Thought provoking indeed. I have a huge urge though to watch the film in reversed order. I guess I'll have to watch it again for it to make more sense to me and answer a few questions floating here and there.

No Toy Gets Left Behind

If you haven't seen it yet then I suggest you lift that butt off where you're seated 'cos you're missing a lot.

Anyway, I am not ashame (when was I ever?) to say that I cried a lot in this movie. Why not? It's the last installment of the first ever Pixar full-length animation film after all. The very thought of not seeing Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang stirs the belly butterflies into chaos. I am so happy that Pixar and the people behind Toy Story 3 (director, storyboard, graphic artists, etc.) did not fail to deliver a simple yet beyond heart-warming version of their final goodbye to the toys we have come to love and adore.

I really admire how they kept the story simple and how they pulled off a perfect ending. Heck, even Rotten Tomatoes rated it 99% and has only good things to rave about it. As always, I loved Woody - for his cowboy sheriff-y leadership and courage- but most of all, I love him because he has always been the most loyal toy among Andy's. I love the squeeze-aliens and their voices. I love Rex's humor, his fear of the uncertainty (it was most normal) and the fact that he has found someone he can finally relate to. I love Slinky's overall usefulness. I love Barbie for showing the smart side of her. I love some of the new characters as well such as Mr. Pricklepants, Trixie, even Ken's glamorous character! I can't actually think of a thing I hate about this film. By the way, the tortilla version of Mr. Potato was such a hilarious part of the movie that I really enjoyed.

It all comes down to one of the hardest reality that any toy could ever face: the fact that there will come a time when they will be outgrown by kids who own them. I agree with what the Pixar storyboard leaders keeps on telling us: a toy can be found if they get lost, can be fixed when they get broken but you can't fix nor stop being outgrown by a child. I love and perfectly understand Andy's emotions over his old toys. I respect his attachment to Woody, Buzz and the others because they've been together for a long time and had only but the greatest memories with one another (though Andy might never have an idea how his toys tremendously love him). Acknowledging his childhood companions is a courageous act because let's face it, not a lot of kids can do that once they outgrew their toys and move on to more interesting things in life.

For me, they're not just some plastics. They're very much alive in my mind and in heart that somehow they could've actually belonged to me, to us.

I will so miss you guys.

Dislike with capital D

Watching New Moon is worse than watching a really, really bad Pinoy movie. One where rolling your eyes are not enough so you add gagging. Sheesh. I just don't get these two lovesick puppies, one that is a human, a very feeble human, and a stalker vampire in my opinion. A vampire whose only words are "you are my life" and "I cannot live without you...". There is absolutely nothing to quote from the books nor the films.

I'm not a fan. Obviously. I don't get why kids all over America are going gaga over it, not to mention the guy who portrays the vampire (that I seriously does NOT get at all!). But I digress. Seriously, the guy dropped you like that without ever explaining why, saying he don't love you yadda yadda, I mean would you believe that crap if you really knew each other? Denying someone of the truth is despicable.

Everytime Bella comes to Edward's aid and I see the pain in Jacob's eyes, it breaks my heart. The boy does not deserve that. The boy kept you alive, pulled you out of your miserable wretchedness when the man you love left you without giving you the benefit of explanation, and you can't even defend him? Because Bella Swan's mind is closed to everything else not Cullen related.

Bella Swan is one character that I awfully dislike. Actually, she doesn't have much of a character unlike thousands of other fictional and literary characters out there. I often wished that her maker made her even more... I dunno, a character with a character. It does not necessarily mean she has to be strong but she shouldn't be always saved every minute. She doesn't even smile (okay, so that's a bit more of Kristen Stewart maybe), doesn't even have a life outside the vampires. Bella could have been an interesting character without being too feisty but that's the problem, she never was near being a feisty girl.

Augh. I can go on but the idea exasperates me. It's annoying. The wolf pack are the only real characters and fun ones at that in the Twilight saga. I honestly believe they do not belong in this plot at all. They could've been better in another story probably.

Gake no Ue no Ponyo

After watching Ponyo, I got a bad case of LSS from the film's theme song. Hayao Miyazaki never fails. <3

Downloaded the OST after watching the movie. The Smiths is LOVE!

Indeed. The reverberating moral of the story (at least for me): You can get over someone, no matter how painful, how hard and how long it could be. You will, eventually. Someday, the pain will just be a faint memory from the past and it will not hurt anymore each time you think about it.

Hung-over

It's awful how I cannot write yet about the recent events that just happened. Sucks how I cannot upload the photos yet from Saturday's Dekada: Sugarfree with the Manila Symphony Orchestra. It'll have to wait until office hours. Boo. Now, this could probably be my driving force to finally ring the company with regards to my lost CC.

Yesterday, I finally watched Dinig Sana Kita with Kimi and the Cheese. It was okay. Makes you want to appreciate your ears more (actually all your senses). I love it though simply because Sugarfree was in it. How wonderful. <3!

Edit: I know itsounds too mababaw so I promise to write a better review of it soon sans Sugarfree. Heehee.

Adventure Is Out There!

Everytime Pixar releases a new animation film, it feels like "this one can never be topped" but hey look here comes another one and you say "now this one sure couldn't be topped". Despite the sheer impossibility of flying your house by balloons (even with thousands of them), of it being unrealistic, the message of UP though, rings loud and true.


That it is never too late to have an adventure. Whether you're 8 or 77, you can still make your own adventure, can still relive your long time dreams of adventure.

Adventure is out there!

That adventure can either be found outside the comfort of your own house but sometimes it can also be found there inside yourself. An adventurous "you" that haven't been let out. For Mr. Carl Fredericksen, his and Ellie's childhood dream was realized only after almost 7 decades but certainly time is nothing. For Russell, it started quite early. Kids' idea of "adventure" and having that adventure in reality is quite different, definitely different. Something that Russell realized somewhere along the trip.

Their love story was the best 4 minutes of it all.

And while we adults cringe with the unthinkable scenes from the film (as kids all around shrieked with utter delight), I never doubted though the production's underlying message to all its possible viewers, to the humaneness of each characters, be it a bird, a child, a dog or a grumpy old man.

But perhaps, my favoritest scene in UP, the one responsible for tears welling up from my eyes so instantly, would have to be that scene where Russell was absently blabbering about fond memories of his always-absent father. Eating ice cream at Fenton's, counting blue and red cars and so on. He seemed so happy reminiscing about those days realizing how boring it sounded, but then goes on saying it maybe be boring but it's what he remembers best.

Or something like that. I have to see it again and remember it word for word. But the essence is there. Russell was a kid who was just yearning for affection that his own father was too busy to give which he certainly found from Carl. And boy, Carl does not disappoint at the end.

All in all, it was such a fun and heartwarming film that I sure as hell will watch again and again and again..

It's a Date!

After a very frustrating Friday (and detaining myself inside the crampy room), Sunday was a breeze, thanks to the Cheese, who insisted to pay for everything. The movie and the merienda in Bubble Tea.
I did not expect to like GI Joe, I only relented because the Cheese wants to watch it. I didn't know them much because I never got to watch the show when I was a kid. Me and my cousins have places to see each afternoon after classes, we don't really stay in front of the telly unless it's the morning cartoon shows. Haha. So anyway, with all the nano technologies, super technologies, warheads and flying a blackbird, I quite enjoyed the film cos I didn't expect anything from it. And oh, I liked Scarlett not Duke.Not much of A Channing Tatum fan ever since.

Potter Disappoints

This is supposed to come out as one of the best among the series seeing that it is the penultimate, but that was not the case. As my middle-aged seatmate said after the credits came up "is that it? no explosions?". Gotta agree. It lacks a lot of things. But action is on the top of it. Teen hormones are flying everywhere (I dunno if Harry is just torpe or doesn't really know anything!)

Some comments/observations:

* Ginny is taller than Harry.
* The first scene in the movie was not in the book at all, one of the many deviation from Mr. Yates.
* Horace Slughorn is not TALL for cripe's sake!
* Where were the other characters? They were elsewhere, nowhere and in the background.
* In connection with above, where was Fleur and Bill?
* Really, Death Eaters in Hogwarts yet nothing happened. Again, where were the actions?
* I wish Daniel Radcliffe could cry.
* Rupert Grint was good in this one.
* While everyone wore puke-able gowns, Hermione is stunning with her own. I don't wonder why.
* Quidditch game was fun!
* Converse rules!
* Dumbledore's death was ...
* Maybe it's just me but I think I'm having a glimpse of a good Snape this early. Ha!
* I bloody wish Deathly Hallows won't be anything like this one. :(

Once

While I was in the middle of watching Once, I fell in love with the movie and everything Indie about it. I am a big supporter of independent films, local or international. I'm just amazed by what they can produce with such meager budgets. And in this movie, with the fact that both lead characters had no other experience in acting, professional-wise.

And don't even let me start with the OST. It is abso-freaking-lutely wonderful. LOVELOVEIT! I loved it so much I pestered the Cheese in finding ways to download at least some of the songs. I especially loved Falling Slowly and Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy.

Falling Slowly even won 2007 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Too bad I didn't know them yet that time cos I watched that Oscar last year. But at least now I knew why it won.
